Holy Cow.....

We got ourselves a winner!!! Congrats to Brent Lancaster on his win in Denton!! Way to go young man!! I was looking over the club points and driver standings just awhile ago and saw some beautiful things. We are currently in second place in the 4 A division. Not to shabby. In the individual driver points we have two in the top ten of electronics. They are Michael Rhea and David Lancaster. Moving down a little bit DICK WEISS is in SECOND place. ( way to go Dick keep the good work going ) Shelly Russell and John Wilson are creating havoc in the Pro class as both drivers are in the top ten. Roy Cullison is in the top ten as well but in the Super Pro class. In Super Muscle, Leon Russell is tied for the lead!! You guys are doing great. I can't wait to get my ducks together and get out there with you guys. Depending on Taylor's schedule, we just might have to roll up to Kennedale on the June 12th makeup date for her debut. Thanks for all your hard work in getting items to me so that I can announce it and get it put on the board. If you so Mike Miller out at the track be sure to thank him for helping with the site!!! It would not be up and running without him. Thanks Mike!!

Class Ultimate Outlaw 30k Cash Purse - only 300 cars will qualify for this purse

    5k r/u
    2k semi
    250 for quarters

Extreme Street 7.5k cash purse plus 5k contingency (based on 100 car count)
    5k 1st
    1500 r/u
    250 semi
    130 quarters
(The cash purse for this race will go up depending on how many cars come out for this class. So more cars, more money goes into the purse and NOT AATRS. Example, if 300 cars come out for this class, we will say only 200 cars will qualify for eliminations. Because there will be an additional 100 cars qualifying for eliminations, that adds another 10k to the race pot. (100 racers x 100 tech card)

Factory Street Street 7.5k cash purse plus 5k contingency (based on 100 car count)
    5k 1st

    250 semi

    AATRS Tech Card

    $30.00 qualify
    $100.00 eliminations

AATRS Race structure is just a little different then you are used to. Instead of going to a race and paying for a higher priced tech card and not making the top 16 or 32 depending on the race, the qualifier tech card is only 30.00. So instead of 500 cars showing up and paying for a 200.00 tech card for a top 16 or 32 race, racers will only have to pay 30.00 for qualifiers. If the drivers qualify for race day, they only pay a 100.00 tech card. So that way the drivers that don't qualify for race day aren't out of pocket extra money.

What an eventful year it has been lately. I have not been out but just a couple of times in the past year. My dad ( Leo ) has had some health issues, my work has been keeping me busy. I have been working at some of our other locations. In August I went to Kentucky and scored another 66 Chevy II wagon. It was an old super stocker. The old buggy needs some body panels straightened out and then a little motorvation...I have a friend named Chris who is starting a series called AATRS (all American track racing series)...this is going to be a wild heads up street legal 10.5 series. They will be in Tulsa this year if any of you fine folks want to go play with them. Got a 30k purse. (That will turn some heads) One of our long time members, David Lancaster, has created a monster in his son. Brent Lancaster entered his first Muscle Car Challenge Race and like what always happens, he fell in love. Every opportunity he has, he heads to the track to work on his driving prowess...Good luck to you Brent. I have my own monster heading out this year, my daughter Taylor is going to start running some. She has told several people at her school about drag racing, and most of them are commenting about it being dangerous. She lines them out pretty quickly.

I have been pestered for the last few years wanting to know when I was going to be back. Well hopefully I will be out with my new buggy by the end of the year. Hope to hang em high and run dead on. I need to congratulate Dick Weiss, apparently he opened the 2011 campaign with a win!! Way to go Dick. Thad is working on getting the old 62 running. They had a minor issue recently and are working to correct it. I have a couple of friends down in the Houston area that run A/FD (that's and injected nitro dragster, in case you did not know)..you guys need to root for Michael Manners and the whole " Shredder " team. Crew Chief is a fella by the name of Shane Conway...some of you might have heard of his dad Tom Conway. Really nice people. The other one to keep an eye on is Kristen Dennis...she is going to be bad to the bone! She is working on getting her buggy all ready...probably will be out in the summer. Good Luck to them. On a different note...most of you have heard of House of Kolor paint..correct? Well the good folks at HOK have come up with a new paint system. It is called Shimrin 2. The old style of HOK was a three step process...put down a base...candy overlay on top of that and then clear....well no more...Simple two step process...be sure to go to any English Color Paint and Supply store and ask the store staff about it. Don't forget as being members of The Hillbilly Hotrods you get discounts on products you purchase from English Color as long as you tell them to wring it up under Hillbilly Hotrods...I hope to see you guys this year. If I am not running hopefully I will be teaching my kiddo how to race and how to do it right!! Keep the Shiny Side Up and the Rubber Side Down!!!!

Holy cow folks..we have had a Burt Fain sighting...don't stare he might go away again. Ha Ha..Seriously, Burt where you been?? Okay the year really started out crappy..I live in Tyler and usually have to leave at the butt crack of dawn in order to get to Kennedale for the Musclecar races if I want a good parking spot. Well I was moseying on down the 'ol venerable I 20, just minding my own business and signing along with the radio only to make it all the way to the Lancaster exit and there it was.. the big nasty...RAIN!! Now it has been a long cold winter (to copy a Cinderella ) album. Threw that in for all you 80's rockers out there. I could not believe it. Hollered at Leo and he said he would meet us over at the Flyin J for a little breakfast. Food helps but come on...not that much. So after some crappy service but good fellowship myself and Chad headed back to Tyler. That was a long ride home. Next up on the hit parade was Ennis. The skies were blue and no rain in sight, only problem was it was so windy. Once again I have the wagon loaded and am looking forward to a long day of racing to finish up with a win. Alas, the racing gods don't like me very much anymore. I looked and looked all over the place but I just could not find the tree. Some smart ass said it was out in the middle of the track, but nope wasn't there for me. I went red in first time trial then was way green in second session then, yep, you guessed it..a little bit red.

Due to some contractual duties, I am to miss a few of the races..namely the Denton and Redline races.. Denton is a booger for me to get to and get home at a decent time so that I may get to work on time Monday. I WILL have the wagon at Crandall and the Ennis and Kennedale races. I am really looking forward to the Saturday Night race at Kennedale. Hopefully I can bring back some of the Saturday Night magic to myself. Burt, when are you going to be at some of the races?? sure could use you out there!! This year I get to impart some wisdom of my own to my daughter Taylor. She has finely turned sixteen and is chomping at the bit to get out there racing. Everything my dad passed to me I plan to share with her. I do believe that she will be in good hands. I would like to Welcome a few new members to the club..Scott Colevris, has a 69 Dart...Todd Worley 70 Buick GS and Brian McCrummen 75 Vega. Good luck to all of our friends and foes (well maybe not to our foes). You know who you are!! LOL. If you do not see me or my dad LEO at the truck please look up John Wilson ( late 80's camaro ) and he can get you in touch with either one of us. In parting I would like to remind all of you to :)

Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down.

    Jeff

    Howdy guys!!!

Been a little while since I posted anything but have I got a deal for you. I work for English Color and Supply. We sell automotive paint and paint accessories. Yeah I know... just like Hank Hill. No, he sold propane. At any rate my company is offering car clubs discounts towards purchase of paint and detail supplies. If you go into any English Color Store ( we have 38 ) and you use the Account name of Hillbilly Hotrods you will get shop grade discounts. Of course you have to pay for your stuff but at a good savings. My company will keep track of all sales through this account and at the end of the year we could qualify for some freebies. I would like to recommend any of the Auto Magic products. Whether you are using compounds or pads or detail cleaning supplies. I would like to nudge some of you to the 777. It is a cleaner that will take the stripes off of a racoon. It can be used on interior, underhood, tires, linoleum floors or old fridges. If you want to get a quick mist detailer use the 49 body shine. This stuff is professional grade, not the cheap stuff from the parts house. I use it on my wagon and love it. The waxes go on easy on come off easy. The paint is of the PPG or BASF lines. This would include primers and color and clears. You can also get some of the economical clears. The advantage line is some mighty fine economical clear. Goes on easy, flows out smoothly and looks like a million bucks. The Euro clear was put on my truck and you can see the definition of the trees over head when she is cleaned up. I live on a farm so it can be difficult to keep that way. Anywho, I thought some of you would like to know this. We have stores in DFW area, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Witchita Falls, Shreveport (2), Texarkana, Memphis and Mississippi (2). Dig in guys and save some pennies.

You can also check out the English Color website at www.englishcolor.com . On this site you can check out the new sales catalog and have some questions answered for you. Or call Me. 903-216-3890 and I will help as much as possible

    Later,
    Jeff

P.S. check out the website www.pixeleye-racing.com It is drag racing over in Germany. Some is at the Base I was stationed at in Bitburg Germany. Also I would like to extend my heart felt feelings and thank yous to ALL the Veterans that race with and against us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart

I know it has been awhile since I have updated anything on here, but , nobody has had any info sent my way in a long time. I just can't make this stuff up. LOL. Well I think I have finally settled in on a new buggy for myself. Traded off my S-10 for a 65 Chevelle drag car. Looking to go racing on the Nostalgia Super Stock tour along side my dad. Leo has a new buggy coming out. It is a 63 Biscayne. Looks and sounds real good. I have been going to car shows a lot over here in East Texas. I entered the The 2009 East Texas Car and Cycle Show with my Nova wagon and came home with a 3rd place trophy. I was stoked. That was the first award I have gotten with that car in the 20 yrs that I have had it and showed it. Then it was off to the Powershow on Mother's day weekend ( with permission from Andrea of course ). I took home Ladies Choice Best of Show. Looks like all the ladies want my old buggy for Grocery Shopping. Last year I had the car painted and spent time getting it together.

I work for English Color and Supply, we are an automotive paint company. We specialize in PPG and BASF paints. Plus we handle House of Kolor as well. If you should need paint or accessories for painting be sure to stop by. We have 37 stores now, located in Dallas / Ft. Worth, Shreveport, Ok City, Tulsa, Amarillo, Lubbock, Memphis, Lufkin, San Antonio, and Midland. I take the wagon out and show it off as best as I can. I have recently signed up with facebook.com. ( finally getting with the program.) I also have a double wide mobile home for sale in Keller if anybody is looking to move. I really don't have much more to add. Would like to see some of you guys come out this way. Oh..... Dallas Raceway in Crandall.... one word describes this joint...BEAUTIFUL. All concrete from burnout to turnout. Lot's of paved parking. The restrooms are the cleanest I have ever seen at a track. They are air conditioned as well. If you have not been then I suggest you go. They also run specials on admissions to some of their events. Twenty dollar for a car load on spectator side. You just don't see that anymore. Till we meet again keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down. I'm out

Oh boy, the smell of the upcoming racing season is upon us. While the TMCCC series council is debating which tracks we will be able to compete at this year I do know of a couple that we won't be at. The first will be the Rusk track. Cherokee County Motorsports Park is no longer in exsistence thanks to Johnny Isaacs. Some of you that have been running with us for awhile know that Johnny owned the Hallsville track previously. The Halls ( Ken and Molly ) had been running Red River Raceway in Shreveport for the past couple of years, decided to sell the track in s'port and concentrate solely on the Rusk track. They had spoken with Frank Kohoutek about going from NHRA sanction to IHRA sanction. This was completed and they were granted a sportsman open and a divisional race. Things were looking up for the Halls'. They had a end of year race set up for December 28th and then up popped the devil and Johnny said no! He allowed that he was not ever going to have another car run down the track that he still owned and said that he was going to bulldoze it and put up a high fence deer operation. What a shame. The track was great and was relatively close to me. This sent the Halls' into scramble mode with rumors circulating that they should take over Pine Valley Raceway in Lufkin. PVR as it is called out here said no way at first then after input from several racers in the area they came to a deal in which the Halls' would run the track. Lufkin is probably to far for most of the guys that run with the TMCCC so it will not be on the schedule.

The other track looks to be Dallas Raceway in Crandall. They are scheduled to have an IHRA National meet in May. Does not look like that will happen unless they get on the ball a little. Heck with the way the economy is maybe none of us will be running anywhere. I would like to lobby for a run at the river. Little River in Temple that is. It is close for all the guys in DFW and I would be willing to make the drive from East Texas. Of course with all of our tracks being taken away from us over here, that means the 3rd Annual Hillbilly Hotrod bonfire in the spring will be a no go. Sorry Ron.

There has also been a bunch of scuttle butt regarding the open wheel cars in TMCCC. I understand not wanting them in any class except electronics, but I understand that some of them don't even want them in Electronics. I know that I might piss some people off here but, TOUGH!!!!! If you run in the Electronics class that usually means that you do some bracket racing on Saturdays throughout the season. You should relish the opportunity to hone your skills against the open wheel cars. You will need it. I understand that some people think that the cars in the TMCCC should have doors or at least resemble cars for eras gone by. If you really want to make it a "Muscle Car" race then all of the trucks and anything newer than 1973 should not be allowed to compete. If you should choose to do that then, goodbye TMCCC. The club series will go away. You need all the different cars to come out and have fun. From what I remember that is what the TMCCC was founded on. Wake Up you guys and relax. Just like John, and Ringo, Paul, and George said....All We Need is Love!!! Support the guys on the Club Council as they try hard to make it fair for everybody. Good luck to all of you this coming season and Benson.... YOU WILL GO DOWN THIS YEAR!!!! ha ha ha See ya at the track

    Jeff

Ladies and Gentleman may I have your attention please...

The Hillbilly Hotrods pulled it off again this year. We finished as Musclecar Club Challenge 4-A Champs, for the second year in a row. Way to go to everybody that helped us out in this our latest mission. Now, god willing and the creeks don't rise we can make it a three peat next year. Pops is going to be getting a list together for the T-Shirts to be made. Be sure to get him your size and info. I would like to thank Mike for keeping the website info posted and up to date. I want to also congratulate these guys in particular for a job well done in the Driver Standings...they are:

  • Electronics, Michael Rhea, 7th Place. Nice top ten effort Michael.
  • King Muscle, congrats goes out to John Wilson, He wound up 4th for the year.
  • Super Pro, a great big salute goes to Anthony Frum who wound up number 1 overall. Excellent job Tony.
  • Super Muscle Thadeus Moore in his Impala 409 car. He managed an 8th place finish. Great job Thad!
  • Super Muscle, Dick Weiss in his Camaro. Dick had a decent year and wound up 11th just two points out of the top ten. We are proud of you.

We had a pretty fun year brought, out a few unique buggies and competed hard. We had a late model Ford Focus with a V-8 conversion in it. That was pretty cool. The economy took its toll on a few racers this year. I would like to thank Burt Fain for coming out this year. We had a few others that just couldn't get out to all the races, Chad Berryhill, Roy Cullison and Jonathan Beard just to name a few. The year started out rough with Jim Tambourine's crash at Kennedale. He was fine though. Please be sure to keep it tuned to the website and as I get updates on new buggies or new babies ( wink, wink ,nudge , nudge, Jonathan.) I will get it posted. Don't forget to send your T-shirt info to Leo at leot63@aol.com .

Till next time, talk to you later.

    Jeff

Summer’s over so here we go!!!!!

Well the summer break is over and done with. Now comes the time for everybody to get their buggies ready to go for the final push to the titles. As I set here listening to the US Nationals over the web at NHRA.com, and I think about all the things that really make our sport a thing of beauty. The shiny cars, the speed and fury and of course the heartbreaks.

A few things have happened since we last conversed so let me fill you in on a few things. I took my dad and went to Brainerd Minnesota for the nationals. I have a friend who races in the Pro Stock class, and we went to give him our support. I also write for prostockcars.com and figured that I could kill two birds with one stone. Somewhere along the way, I apparently lost that stone. Ha ha. Pat’s hot rod was not ready to go because the pistons were not right for his motor. The company building them put the ring lands in the wrong spots. Everything has to be so precise on these motors. Pat decided not to lease a motor from Tom Hammonds, so he just made sure that we had a great time. If you guys want to go to a kick ass race this is one to go to. The zoo is cool as can be. I related it to Mardi Gras only better.

I have a customer over here in Tyler that had his 41 Willys with a blown 468 and his truck and trailer Stolen over the past weekend ( 08-23-08) The car is black with red true flames, the truck and trailer are both white. They have no markings on them. The truck is a 98 crew cab 1 ton single axle Chevy, the trailer is a 26 foot Pace enclosed trailer. If you happen to see these vehicles please contact me so that I can reunite these items with there rightful owner.

If my calculations are correct we ( hillbilly hotrods ) have six of us qualified for the big dog race at Kennedale!!!! Pretty good. We just need to get the rest of us in. Of course if that happens then the rules will get changed for next year. HA HA. If something happens and I don’t get to make it to Ennis I will hope that you talk to dad. ( LEO ) Give him some more info so that I can get it posted. Thanks guys and good luck to everybody for the rest of the year. ( unless of course you happen to be racing against a Hillbilly. Oh yeah good luck this year to the Texas A & M Aggies. Gig ‘Em!! WHOOP!!!

    Jeff

    6-4-2008

Well, well, well.... let's look back at the past two races shall we?? Ennis was rescheduled on Memorial Day Weekend due to a rain out at the end of April. Racer participation was about as well as could be expected due to the darn fuel prices. I think we had 106 cars total out there. Yours truly semi finaled and really stunk up the joint at that. I have raced that Cody kid several times and let's just say he has my number. Good thing he is moving back to California though. ( whew ) Tony had his Nova running well. He runner upped in Super Pro I believe it was. His final had two cars that were painted almost exactly alike. His 70's Nova against a 60's Camaro. Didn't get a real close look to see if it was a 67 or 68. Pretty sure it was not a 69. I know , way to pay attention. That was pretty much it for Ennis... Oh, yeah the real pretty 64 or 65 GTO had a catastrophic rear end issue. Unfortunately he drove his car to the track. Tow bill had to be a real booger though.

Now on to Abilene, CONGRATS to LEO THOMPSON, finally got that monkey off his back and notched a win. Thadeus had his Impala running well as he runner upped. Tony made it a few rounds in his ol Nova. John Wilson had the Oldsmobile running well as he managed a Semi final showing. So far it looks well for the Hillbillies running in the Big Dog Race at Kennedale this year. If you have won or runner upped be sure to be at Kennedale for the Big Dog race. As of right now the list is.. Thadeus with the Impala, Tony with his Nova, John with his Oldsmobile, Leo with whatever he happens to own at the time, Chad Berryhill in either his Vette or Mommas Toyota Land Shark, and of course little ole me, ( jeff ). I will either have my wagon or my wife's little Malibu SS. I hope everybody has a safe summer and we will catch you at the Ennis race in September. DO NOT FORGET... It is on Saturday the 6th. again it is a SATURDAY. Till we meet at the track or around town.. keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down!!!!

    Jeff

    4-14-2008

Oh my, what a nice day for racing it was on Sunday. For those of you who happened to be down here last year when it was 9000 degrees, this past Sunday was great! It was about 70 degrees outside, albeit a little windy...ok a lot windy. Looks like we had 19 cars at Denton, we had a good turn out. Thanks to everybody that went to Denton. As for Rusk, we had 10 cars I believe. The whole TMCCC group as a whole had a good showing. I was contacted by a few people down here that allowed it was a cool show and that they would go to more!! Way to go TMCCC.

Chad Berryhill has been on a roll this year, he has been out twice and has a win and a runner-up for his efforts. Leo Thompson made it to the Semi's, I happened to be fortunate enough to take the win. Apparently there was a problem with the cross talk not being on in the Stock final and that is how I won. Amazing how these things work out. I would like to thank Mary Catherine Johnson for coming out in her debut with her 87 Grand National. It is a pretty car. She had a little bugga boo in the first round, but that's okay. She only has about 8 passes to her credit. It will come grasshopper... be patient. Burt Fain ran the quickest pass he has made to this date. Car looked good...even with 26 pounds in his slicks!! ha ha Just poking fun Burt. Jonathan decided to be a hired shoe this weekend, didn't work out so well for him though, he tried to crash Jeffs' Nova. By the way congrats to Jonathan... He is to become a daddy in a few months!! John with the Cutlass had a red light jump up and get him in the first round, no problem just run the race of champions go two rounds and break an axle, make a hard right on the launch and shut it off...all in a days work I guess. Roy went out in the second round in his Nova and like John decided to take his frustrations out on the R.O.C.... He did great made it to the final but then lost in the final. Good Job Roy!!

The hard luck award goes to the guys in the Nova that drove down only to break in the time trials.... they lost an alternator bolt and kicked off the belt. They were to load up but we asked them to at least stage their ol buggy and maybe the opponent would red light or break out and they could come back for more!!! Unfortunately it did not work out for them. I was real proud of everybody that came down. I know that with gas prices being what they are it is a hardship for a lot of folks. I really do appreciate it as well as does the TMCCC council!!! I guess the next mission is to hit the track at Ennis on the 27th.

    3-31-2008

Oh man was I fooled. I skipped the race this past weekend at Denton because, I thought it was going to rain. For those of you who don't know, I live in Tyler. It was raining pretty hard down here Friday, Saturday and then again on Sunday. I spoke to my dad and he said the sun was shining and it was warm up there. I wish now that I would have made it up there. I understand that we had some success at the Denton race.

I would like to congratulate my dad Leo Thompson on his semi final effort. Good job also goes out to Jonathan Beard on his runner-up effort with the Race of Champions. We had a huge car count at Kennedale, we earned fifty six points off of thirty cars. Way to go guys!!! From what I heard we had about fifteen cars at Denton. I know that I am forgetting somebody, but email me with your info and I will get you acknowledged accordingly.

Next up is the Rusk race... now I know a lot of you guys may not come down here for the race, but the track is very nice and smooth. I really like it here. The fuel prices are what are going to hurt the TMCCC races down this way and possibly at Abilene. If you have not ventured out this way I encourage you to do so. The scenery is beautiful down here this time of year. Let's do the best we can and I hope to see you down here. Remember, we will have a get together here at my house on the Saturday before the race. We will have burgers and dogs and then will have a bonfire, if we are not under burn bans. If you want to come email me and I will give you directions to the house. If you want adult beverages get them before you get here. Smith county is dry. Last chance for brews is Terrell. Easy off -easy on . Later!

    Jeff Thompson

    03-17-2008

Well here we go!! After a delay to start the season, we got under way at Texas Raceway in Kennedale. The day started out a little chilly but the afternoon turned out to be nice. There were 177 cars in attendance for the opening of the 2008 season. First things first.... we would like to let everybody know that Jim Tambourine is A-OK after his mishap. Not to make light of the severity of Jim's ride... I guess he could take some pride in the knowledge that he tested out Kennedale's new concrete walls and they held up. Jim's car is toast but he is here walking and talking with us and for that we are grateful. Jim built his own chassis and though a few bars were "tweaked" the welds held and allowed Jim to walk away from a very Sassy crash.

And, now for the rest of the news. We had several Hillbilly's make good showings..most notably would be Chad Berryhill out of Tyler in his 04 Toyota. Chad notched his first win!!!!! We would like to congratulate Geoffrey Meshell, from Mesquite on his outstanding day as well. Geoffrey was running his 71 Nova in the King Muscle class and got a Semi- Final finish. Others who had good days were.. Anthony Frum from Richardson in his 72 Nova he reached the quarters in Super Pro as well as Burt Fain in his 66 Chevelle from Mansfield. Two guys in Super Muscle also made the quarters...they would be Jerry Bowman in his 93 Mustang and Thadeus Moore in his 1961 IMPALA. Yes it is a true Impala not a Biscayne as the announcer would like for you to believe. (apparently he does not know all!!) ha ha.

We had a great turnout as far as our club car count goes. Let's try to keep it going at Denton on the 30th of March. Last but not least I think a hearty round of applause needs to go out to our "fanciest" Hillbilly's. The husband and wife team of Robert Martin and Stacy Watkins had their Bentley and the Mercedes racing with us. Folks the Bentley weighs 6000 pounds and ran 8.57 !! Unbelievable. His wife's Benz ran an astounding 8.26 on a breakout run dialed in at 8.41. This was there first time to race and let's hope they can keep it up. If you guys need shirts ordered be sure to see LEO THOMPSON he can get er done for you. Thanks again to everybody who showed up and get me your pics and some info on your cars, so that we can get them posted on the site!!
